Founded in 1991, Southwest Wings is Arizona’s oldest birding festival and a must-do for nature lovers. Based in Sierra Vista, the festival focuses on the incredible biodiversity of the "Sky Islands" - mountains that rise from the desert floor, creating a unique habitat for rare birds, reptiles, and mammals.

The festival is famous for its small-group field trips (limited to roughly 10 people) that offer a more personal birding experience. While they host the Spring Fling in May, their massive Summer Festival in August is the highlight of the year, coinciding with the peak of monsoon season when hummingbird diversity is at its highest.
